Club Penguin and related websites attacked

Greetings Penguins!

As many of you will already know, the CP website was down the other day for several hours – something of which hasn’t happened in a long time. It also seemed that other related websites such as Mech Mice and apparently ToonTown were also down. To make things worse, even CP fan blogs such as Trainman’s Club Penguin Memories fell victims to such an attack, but what happened?

The reason behind this was a large scale DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. Basically, this is when a mass amount of connection requests are sent to a website (in this case, Club Penguin’s servers) which often cause them to crash due to the huge amount of data sent. This is one of the most common attacks people use on the Internet to shut down a website for a limited time. However, I will not name any people associated with the attack as they know who they are.

CP is now back up and running so there is no need to worry, nor is it shutting down any time soon like many rumours suggested.

Random Club Penguin Fact #02 – Rsnail (Club Penguin Co-Founder) has stated that he will have to “dust off” his old Red Viking helmet and log into CP for the Star Wars Takeover!

Until next time, Waddle on!
